I have a unique gift that maybe only I appreciate. I can watch movies over and over and I don’t get tired of them. My favorite movies are treasure hunt movies with automatic weapons and car chases. Football movies are a real pick me up between The Super Bowl and pre-season. Here are a few of my my top picks.

We head to the man cave for a little escape from reality. The idea of the underdog inmates playing the guards for pride and revenge might be a tad far fetched, but it is really fun to watch. You can’t help but want to see the inmates even up the score for their abusive treatment. This is one case where the remake is just as entertaining as the original. Adam Sandler is just as likable as Burt Reynolds. The supporting characters might be better in the 2005 version. Don’t miss Bill Romanowski’s performance as Guard Lambert hopped up on diet pills.
Invincible (2006)Cave Rank[Rating:4.5/5]
Mark Wahlberg just rocks. I’m not saying I have a man crush, but I’ll watch anything this guy is in. He really does a great job playing the dude who is not quite sure he is going to win, but he is going to give it his all. Based on the story of Vince Papale, a 30-year-old bartender from South Philadelphia who overcame long odds to play for the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles in 1976. I’ve never heard of a bar tender turned pro football payer, but movies in the man cave are about escape, not reality.

Adam Sandler makes another well-deserved appearance on the football movie list. Oh, yeah. Bobby Boucher is a happy guy keeping the redneck athletes hydrated as they abuse the good natured simpleton. Then Coach Klein (The Fonz) unleashes the beast and Bobby tears through the offense like a tornado through a trailer park. With a mama like that we would all have some pent up frustration. Fortunately, Bobby has a perfectly cast girlfriend to protect him and keep him in check. This story is about becoming a man. On the football field. In the South. A must for any man cave movie collection.
Jerry McGuire (1996)Cave Rank [Rating:2.5/5]
Cameron Crowe probably had a bet going with some buddies on this movie: I’ll bet you Super Bowl tickets that I can make a chick flick that will trick guys into liking it because it centers around football. He totally lucked out because of the breakaway performance of our man Cuba Gooding Jr. I can’t bring myself to like Tom Cruise (or his characters), but I don’t have the typical chick flick aversion to this movie. Cameron’s trick worked.

Rudy- without a doubt. One of the few movies that a man is allowed to shed a tear while watching.
