Price: $99

This week I had the opportunity to try digital performance eyewear from Gunnar Optiks. These glasses are intended for those of us that are forced spend a lot of time under fluorescent lighting staring at a computer screen, or gamers that voluntarily spend all day staring at a game screen.

Yes, I did initially feel like a mega-dork wearing the glasses with yellow lenses in the office. But, the instant I put the glasses on my eyes felt refreshed and relaxed. I didn’t even realize the stress my eyes were under until the strain was relieved. It’s like the day you awake finally healed up after a long-term injury. The glasses filter out many stressful wavelengths of light that contribute to eyestrain on a daily bases. The lens coatings also increase contrast, which adds a slight magnification. Looking at the computer screen is much more clear and comfortable to look at. I last longer at work, though I’m not crazy about that benefit.

Gunnar is founded by ex-Oakley gurus, so form and function are blended very well. The construction of the glasses is sturdy and has a great feel. The MLG glasses are super lightweight and built to flex without bending or breaking during extended energy drink game sessions. The styling is really good, the glasses got a high wife approval factor. The optics are also fantastic. There is no distortion and the yellow color is not too distracting. Gunnar does offer many frames with clear lenses, CRySTALLINE lenses if you prefer clear lenses.

Some of the larger sizes look like they would fit over glasses. My office partner wore the groove model over his glasses and they worked OK. RX Lenses available from Gunnar and certainly a better option.

These glasses are certainly worth the investment. It’s nice not to be burned out after a long day of spreadsheets. Check out more at http://www.gunnars.com/
