Maybe your well intending cave girl didn’t quite give the perfect gift this year. It might be time to treat yourself and your cave crew to a VUDU high definition on-demand movie service. Although VUDU offers content in both standard definition and high definition, VUDU also delivers the world’s largest high def library into your cave through an internet connection. No more storing DVDs and Blu-rays, no more opening the case only to find the disc is missing. No more driving to the store to rent a movie either. VUDU stores purchases and provides access to play them without having to make space for discs, so even scratched discs are no longer a problem.
How is this different than the on-demand services that cable or satellite offer? Think of it like streaming Netflix, but in high def with movies and TV shows for sale and rent. VUDU provides previews and high def clips of the movie library. Rentals and purchases are available to watch when you are ready to watch, not at selected times on different channels.
With all these great features, how do you get VUDU to your cave? There are two ways. First, VUDU is built into a growing number of high def TVs and blu-ray players. Just connect one of the models below to the net and you are good to go. Content will stream from VUDU to your TV, so you don’t have to worry about any storage capacity limits. VUDU is currently built into:
HDTVs:
LG
- 55LH50: 55-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
- 47LH50: 47-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
- 42LH40: 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV
- 60PS80: 60-Inch Broadband Plasma HDTV
- 50PS80: 50-Inch Broadband Plasma HDTV
Mitsubishi
- LT-52249: 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
- LT-46249: 46-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
Blu-ray Player
LG
- BD 390: Network Blu-ray Disc Player
What if you already have a TV and are happy with it? The second way to get VUDU to your cave is by using a VUDU box, a 1080p HD internet movie player. This box houses all the brains needed to run VUDU and stores about 50 standard definition movies. Once you reach capacity on the VUDU box, your purchases will be stored online where you have the same instant access.
Since VUDU streams movies it is a good idea to test your internet connection. Just like Netflix, this will determine the quality of picture you will get. In the case of downloading movies to the VUDU box, purchases will be quicker to download with a better connection. Click here to test your connection.
Streaming Requirements:
Customers should have at least a 1 Mbps broadband internet connection in order to enjoy the VUDU streaming service. With faster broadband connections, customers can enjoy VUDU’s 720p HD and industry leading 1080p HDX format.
Minimum requirements for the VUDU streaming service are:
So, what about getting internet to your TV? Some caves will have this dialed in already with wired Ethernet to their PS3 or Xbox. In that case, use an [amazon-product text="ethernet hub" type="text"]B00000J4M9[/amazon-product] and connect all your sources into the hub. If you don’t have wired ethernet, then you can use a [amazon-product region="us" text="VUDU Wireless Kit" type="text"]B001AS0F1A[/amazon-product]. This is even easier to set up than VUDU itself. It takes longer to get out of the package than to set up. Plug one side of the bridge to your router, and the other side into your TV or VUDU box. Done.
Setting up VUDU is amazingly simple. More electronics should be this easy to set up. VUDU will walk you through set up once you have internet connected to you VUDU box or TV. You will need to set up an account on VUDU’s web site, so have a computer ready and connected to the net. Once you have activated an account with VUDU, you will receive weekly emails with new movies and special offers. Total set up time is under 5 minutes.
Free stuff? We all like free stuff, and VUDU provides some of the best. The free stuff is internet based entertainment found under VUDU labs (on the VUDU box) or VUDU Apps (for TVs with VUDU built-in). There are a handful of games and photo sharing sites (Flickr and Picasa). The world of YouTube is available for your TV now too. The most exciting free feature though, is Pandora (free internet radio). Imagine having access to all that free music to play through your home theater surround sound system. Good times!
And now you have about a year to figure out a better way to let your cave girl know exactly what you really want for Christmas next year.

I would really love to win this TV. Man it would look great in my man cave. I would have a newer, better TV to play my PS3 on. Sweet!
Speaking of winning a TV, Tabasco is running a sweepstakes to win a big screen TV and have it delivered before the Super Bowl! As you can imagine, there are lots of other spicy prizes. Check it out: http://pepperfest.com/info_booth/news/big_screen_giveaway.cfm
