We’ve all experienced the scenario:
You are talking with your cave girl about a movie you’d like to watch, a restaurant you’d like to try or a vacation location you want to investigate, but she does not listen to your great idea. You eventually bail on the idea and move on. Two weeks later one of her friends recommends the exact same movie, but your cave girl is open to the idea because it comes from a source other than you.
And this is where your wingman comes in to play. He can recommend your idea and your lovely cave girl is all of a sudden receptive to the idea because it is coming from another source. And it’s really not that complicated. First, plant the idea in the automatic rejection round. Then call up your wingman, tell him what you need brought up casually in conversation. Set up a barbecue and invite he and his cave girl over. Done. Mission accomplished.
Choose your wingman wisely. Maverick and Goose knew their roles and played them well. Your wingman’s credibility increases significantly if he has a cave girl. He should also be someone your cave girl trusts. He should be in same or better point in his relationship to be respectable to your cave girl.
Turnabout is fair play, so ask Goose what he needs brought up too. This can be a great tool to use, but don’t overplay it. The girls will eventually figure it out, but it will remain effective after discovery if done right.
